Hold Onto Your Hat (and Pull On Your Boots), Woodenbong’s Rodeo is Back

Nothing screams “you’re in a small country town” louder than everyone asking, “Are you going to the rodeo?” Which is exactly what’s happening here in Kyogle this week.

I’ve been ghosting through town in stealth mode, attempting to mind my own business, and bam—every conversation keeps circling back to the R word.
“Have you got your tickets?”
“Are you camping?”
“Dress or jeans…?”

Honestly, it’s hard not to get swept up in the excitement.

Now, I don’t claim to know the full social backstory of why Woodenbong’s rodeo took a 23-year hiatus—who said what to whom or which cattle gate got closed—but here we are, with the buzz building and the bulls coming back.

And naturally for me, that means one thing: Girls Night.
Sure, it might not be your average ladies’ night out, but around here, we take our boot scootin’ where we can get it. Have I done it before? Not intentionally. Will I be trying it this weekend? Absolutely.

So if you’re feeling the pull of the arena lights, the country soundtrack and a steak sanga, grab your tickets, polish your boots, and we’ll see you in the stands—Akubra tilted, hips questionable, spirits high.

👉 Event details: Saturday, 19 July 2025 – gates open from 3pm – $20 an adult
